Yep, there are definitely some systems with what I would call excessively-frequent ad postings. I have mine set to autopost every 10
days, which seems reasonable to me.

Unfortunately, at least in my opinion, there are more than a few "BBSes"
that get started up and then not checked or looked at for weeks/months
at a time. That's not what being a Sysop is all about.

yeah i know i was hoping someone else saw it. i dont.
I am not sure anyone is doing it here, but there seem to be folks that do
it in the FIDO BBS ads echo from time to time. When I was moderating that
one for a while, I would reach out to the sysops via netmail and ask them to check their settings. I might get a response and they'd fix it, but
usually I never heard back.

I saw that post...just a line at the top, and nothing else.
Unfortunately, at least in my opinion, there are more than a

I still remember when gasoline was 25 cents a gallon. While growing up
in south Florida, there were "Gas Wars" between nearby stations, with
the price between 35 and 40 cents a gallon. At the time, my father (who
had been gone 19 years now) lamented "I don't know what we'll do if it
hits 40 cents a gallon!!".
What we wouldn't give for that nowadays!!

Before I had to quit driving and sell my car nearly 4 years ago, I
had wanted to build up $1 per gallon credit from shopping at Kroger's.
Then, when the gas was down to $1.15 a gallon, I would have gone to
the pump, applied the full discount, got it for 15 cents a gallon,
took a picture of that, and sent it out. It certainly would've gone

Yeah, we have the other end. There is a gas station on the coast in Big
Sur, CA. It's probably 100 miles from the next gas station. They have 1
or 2 pumps and price the gas astronomically - they don't want people
filling up there except in dire need, as they don't have huge tanks -
you're supposed to get a couple of gallons to get you by if you need it.
I see pictures of $7.69 gas from there all the time on twitter with a
MAGA poster saying "THIS IS GAVIN NEWSOM'S AMERICA!!!!><@M"

a gas station where you are only supposed to get 2 gallons? sounds
like a made up story.
Maybe someday they will invent these mobile tankers that can fill the tanks
on a regular basis.

your price of gas is crazy no matter where it is in california.

Even in areas with lots of stations, in 2023, I found stopping for fuel in
CA to be quite a painful experience. Not $7.69 painful, but IIRC there
were a couple of stations just off I-40 in Needles that were pushing
towards $6/gallon. I didn't stop there, but went slighly out of the way
back into AZ (away from the Interstate) to fill up for half as much.
