Hello! I want to talk to you about a board game: Through the Ages - A New Story of Civilitation.

Through the Ages is a card driven game in which each player represents a civilitation. The goal is to create the civilitation that will make the deepest impact in History. In order to do so, the players will have to grow their civilitation from the bronze age to modern times, using their resources in the most efficient way, while avoiding being steam rolled by the armies of their neighbors.

In other words, it is an Eurogame with direct conflict.

The impact your civilitation makes in History is meassured in Culture points. Generating them, however, is tricky. As the overlord of your people, you will have to create farms in order to feed your population, dig mines in order to gather resources, and spend resources in science, armies and entertainment for the masses. The balance your civilitation depends on is quite fragile and you can't do everything: if your population lacks entertainment, they will revolt; lacking science means your opponents will be more efficient than you are; not a big enough army will cause your foes to prey on your resources.

The game is long and has plenty of components. Definitively a bit complex for newcomers to the board game scene, but not terribly so. Still, spending the time to learn is worth it... having Robespierre lead a Revolution in order to impose a Constitutional Monarchy or having Napoleon command armies composed of tanks and air forces has no price.

Sounds like the board version of the PC games Civilzation and/or Age of Wonders which are fantastic games. Thanks for the review Arelor.

I can't remember the last time I played any board game. It
would be at least 21 years ago.

The reviews for TtA are excellent. Apparently there is pc/app
    version of it too.

I am not familiar with Civilitation but I have heard this board game labeled as a "Civilitation Lite", so
maybe there is merit to the comparison :-)

It is hard to trust reviews these days in my opinion. They are either biased or bought. Aftr reading all
the positive reviews about that awful Avalon film I lost my faith in reviews forever.

I suppose that is weird comming from me, since I am posting as many reviews in here :-) In the end of the
day I think the best reviews are the ones that tell you what the product *is* rather than how good it
scores, because it allows people to figure out it if fits them or not.

I have seen some videos of the Android version and it looks pretty. I prefer playing with family myself.

Speaking of which, TtA is the sort of game in which your relatives will end up crying when your
napoleonic army steals the three Bronzes they needed to complete some vital building that turn. It is not
a game to play with sore losers.

Your reviews are intertainment themselves. I give the reviews
    5/5.

The interactions with real people can be spontaneous and
    peppered with jokes, etc..

Myself, I haven't felt compelled to play any games on a pc or
as a board game. I upgraded to a more modern Rubik's Cube a
couple years ago. I really enjoyed solving and resolving those
things years ago. I was fun to "fix" other people's cubes in
    seconds.

I really like the smooth operation of the new RC but I haven't
been interested to concentrate on it - even though in theory it
    ought to be fun.

Easier said than done for some people.

I think it is a common problem in some groups that a member will bring his girlfriend or whoever to the game session, and the newcomer will screw the flow or ruin the game otherwise, and there is not much you can do without getting the member angry.

Couple of things - first, yeah, that's a hard one sometimes. :-( We are planning a 'game night' at church and I'm hoping it doesn't turn into
a mess. LOL - I know some of them like Rook, so I'm bringing a couple of
decks, but I'm also bringing Ticket to Ride, Betrayal at House on the Hill,
and (one of my favorites) Codenames! Wish me luck! :-)

Second - since I last posted on here, I've been doing more and more coding
for Divine Right on VASSAL... Man, that's a rabbit hole for sure!

Ticket to Ride is a good one for starters. People picks it up quite fast, and usually don't get angry at backstabbings :-)

Agreed! Played Sagrada two nights ago for the first time. Was fun, but
only two of us... Last night TSURO - again, was super fun (more than
Sagrada, IMO) but only 2 of us... Wouldn't mind picking that up to keep
and/or bring to church game night!
