not sure if they use one address to receive the ransom only. If so, you can check the address if others have paid.

I can't count anymore how many emails of this kind i have gotten =)

One thing about Gmail is that it has a sort of smart email filter that can detect spam. Most of the time, I don't even see emails like this anymore, as they go directly to spam. But sometimes I do need to check my spam in case it mistakenly flagged a real email.

Thats what you get for giving all your data to google ;)

Beside proton i am with GMX.net for email and their SpamFilter is okish. The problem that i have, the filter often overrules my whitelist entries. So even if i say a certain sender should always be accepted as valid, emails from this sender are still filtered out sometimes.

I'm not sure what you mean..? You make spam filtering sound like a negative. The auto spam filter means I don't have to spend my own time looking at spam emails and deleting them, and I don't know how that would be a negative..

Just saying, google can develop very effective tools (spam filters) cause it has full access to millions of emails. i like efective spam filters! just pointing out that google can access a huge dataset to train their filters and that makes it potentially very effective.

It is the same with google maps. when you use it in your car as a route planner, you act as a live google sensor. Its a give and take. You just have to be aware of it, that you pay with your data at free and paid google services.

Its all good and no issue if you don't mind sharing all your data =)
I do use google maps also and other google services, but where possible i try to slowly degoogle the services i use.

True, though I've hoped it's only trained on the emails that people have marked as spam, rather than using all your data. :)

Yeah, I normally have my phone's location setting turned off, as I'd just rather not have any people or apps tracking where I am, and generally I don't feel a need to do that. I only turn it on when I actually need to - Sometimes I do use Google Maps for directions, especially when I'm walking somewhere. In my car, often I like to use my car stereo's built-in GPS maps app, as I feel like that's more convenient. My car stereo does support Android Auto (and Apple Car Play), but it's not wireless for that; I have to plug my phone into my car via USB to use its maps app on my car stereo (and I don't have a phone holder in my car).
