Any new interesting projects, things going on, etc?

Besides working, I have been trying to do as many things outside when the weather is decent as possible. Doing lots of motorcycle riding to various places, etc. We are going to North Carolina (beach) the 1st week of September for a week. I took some extra time off so I can relax and do some riding when I get back, too.

Been spending some time with my grandson several weekday evenings, too. Long story, but my younger daughter has had issues with opiod addiction for years off and on ever since getting hurt in High School while she was cheerleading. Things got worse this summer and apparently her and her fiance drug usage increased. He had an OD in May. Then just a month later in June, OD'ed again and passed away. My daughter was also in really bad shape so I drove her to Recovery Centers of America at 3am right after being released from the hospital from an OD in July.

The good news is she is doing much better and really hoping she gets her life back on track. Life throws all types challenges your way over the years. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. I should be as strong as a bull at this point.

Unfortunately, I had to spend most of it cooped up in the office for a
disaster recovery exercise. By the time I got home, I didn't feel like
doing much.

I am looking forward to some outdoor activities in early September when I
can travel a little bit.

I'm finishing off a landscape project in our back yard. Our back yard now
is 1/3 unfinished dirt and gravel with a new shed that's a little retreat/sitting area, 1/3 leveled artificial grass, and 1/3 pea gravel with
a table/chairs/umbrella.

On the home front, I'm playing with maxxing out my homelab (Proxmox running VMs and LXC containers, and an Ubuntu guest running k3s), my router running DD-WRT, a Pi running as a reverse proxy, and watching as many how-to videos
as I can stand.

Work is all ESXi and AWS, so a bit different.

Kids are getting ready for changes in school - my daughter is going into middle school, and my son starts college. He's been on an extended trip with his mom and her family, when he gets back he needs to practice and pass his driving test, get his license, find a job and move stuff from his mom's
house to ours as he'll be living with us full-time in the fall. Then, start
as a freshman, I don't think he knows how hard it's going to be compared to remote schooling his senior year.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There are days I have to force myself to go out and get some fresh air and always happy I did. My goal at this point is to majorly work towards being able to retire in the next 10-13 years at the longest. I want more time to do what I want to do and less time doing what others want me to do.

Nice! Yes, there are always outdoor projects in play. I need to re-work the expansion gaps between our concrete sidewalk and driveway. Also do lots of scrub trimming - some with a chainsaw.

Cool! I'm still running ESXi 6.7 here. I have also been doing lots of work with Home Assistant and crypto mining.

My son starts 8th grade this fall. Both my daughters are way past school age at this point. One is turning 28 and the other is 25.

What has been odd the past year is not having to work on my cars as much. Mainly because they don't get driven much. I work from home almost everyday and in the summer, will take one of the Harleys if I have somewhere to go.

We are going to be re-working our basement this fall because I want it to be a 100% fun area. Fish tank, pinball, games, pool table, huge TV, fireplace, the works. It is going to be a fun place. I enjoy doing those types of projects, so looking forward to it.

After being diagnosed with atrial flutter/atrial fibrillation, that has
put the kabosh (sp?) on my traveling...as if finances, or lack thereof,
weren't an issue. The tagline below applies.

I've talked to several folks who have AFIB, and said if my cardiologist
gives the OK, I should be able to travel. But, the thing is, you can't
just drop what you're doing, and come home quick in an emergency.

I am guessing that others just go to the nearest hospital that is on their trip. Not as comforting as a doctor you know, though.
