The Running Man (based on Stephen King novel from '86) is
getting a new film treatement coming out in November. Looks
good. The novel is being released with a movie tie-in cover.

"Ben Richards has no job, no money, and a young daughter who
urgently needs medical attention. Desperate, out of options, he
signs up for The Running Man, "the biggest show in the
country." It's an ultraviolent competition where the stakes
could not be higher. Ben must stay alive for thirty days while
an elite strike force, trained to kill, hunts for him. If he
can survive for a month, he wins a billion dollars. No
contestant has ever lasted longer than eight days. Can Ben
Richards win this ultimate game of life and death?"

The '87 movie starring Arnold Scharsenegger supposedly takes
place in 2017. Arnold uses the line "I'll be back" in that
    one.

    The book is:

    Hi August,

Not another remake! I hope it's better than that forgettable remake of "Total Recall". Juat goes to show Hollywood has no imagination these days.

IIRC, they changed the movie's ending to a "happy" one for "The Running Man" as in the original book, Ben Richards hijacks an airliner and rams it into the ICS headquarters.

Interesting that they're refering to the author by his real name and not his nome de plume, Richard Bachman (I think?), that he origanally used for this book.

I'll hold my judgement on this remake until I can get my hands on it but I am not holding out hope. <G>
