• Shortage of workers in the US

From Joseph Pereira@1:124/5016 to All on Fri Jun 16 04:12:14 2023

The US economy is suffering from a shortage of workers.

    So how is this possible?

    There are two main causes.

The first is Covid. One million Americans have died from Covid in recent years. A good portion of them were still working (partly because the U.S. has lousy pension laws).

So by not taking Covid seriously, the previous president helped create this problem.

The second problem also stems from the policies of the previous administration. That is the fact that "foreigners" were no longer welcome. Foreigners who filled jobs that Americans no longer had an appetite for.

Jobs that are therefore now not being filled, because in several (right-wing) states it is becoming increasingly difficult to legally allow foreigners to work for you. Republicans are passing increasingly strict laws to stop foreigners and keep them out of their state.

Many farmers would love to exploit foreigners legally, but even they don't get that chance legally because conservative Americans, fearing foreigners, would rather close the border than see those foreigners working in the fields.

Meanwhile, an illegal circuit is now being created, fueled by mostly conservative farmers who then just attract foreigners completely illegally and without paying taxes, because the harvest has to get off the field anyway.

The same Republican state government does not intervene towards these farmers. After all, it is the core of their voter base in the right-wing states. So now the foreigners are even more exploited and have absolutely no rights in certain states in the US.

Fear is a strange thing. The previous administration made conservative voters extremely afraid of thieves and child molesters from abroad.... After all, that was Trump's message.

That made him extremely popular, but it still hurts the US economy, because the US depends on the labor of those foreigners.

    Hello Joseph,

The US economy is suffering from a shortage of workers.

Not really. The pay is lousy, but not due to a shortage of workers.

    So how is this possible?

I don't know. Please fill me in.

    There are two main causes.

    Only two?

The first is Covid. One million Americans have died from Covid in recent years. A good portion of them were still working (partly because the U.S. has lousy pension laws).

Gee. Thanks for informing me. I had always thought it was
all Trump's fault. Never knew I could be so wrong!

So by not taking Covid seriously, the previous president helped create this
    problem.

Say wha'? You didn't do as your President prescribed? Shame on you!
Ingest your bleach, now! Shine that sunlight inside you, now! Never
mind what that doofus Joe Biden said about the pandemic being over!
His mind is gone! Totally gone!

The second problem also stems from the policies of the previous administration. That is the fact that "foreigners" were no longer welcome. Foreigners who filled jobs that Americans no longer had an appetite for.

The current unemployment numbers show the only folks not able to
find a job are those with no skills. Everybody else has jobs, with
    good pay.

Of course, that is for those who are here legally.

There are loads of other folks (legal and not legal) who have jobs
painting houses, cutting grass, housecleaning, babysitting, etc.
Not really sure how many bother with paying taxes ...

Jobs that are therefore now not being filled, because in several (right-wing) states it is becoming increasingly difficult to legally allow foreigners to work for you. Republicans are passing increasingly strict laws to stop foreigners and keep them out of their state.

Texas has a lot more illegal immigrants tending their fields than
Louisiana. Not because of the number of laws passed, but rather by
the number of immigrants already there.

Many farmers would love to exploit foreigners legally, but even they don't get that chance legally because conservative Americans, fearing foreigners,
would rather close the border than see those foreigners working in the fields.

Agricultural workers (those here legally) are not even paid the
federally mandated minimum wage. You can only imagine what those
who are not here legally are paid, if at all.

Meanwhile, an illegal circuit is now being created, fueled by mostly conservative farmers who then just attract foreigners completely illegally and without paying taxes, because the harvest has to get off the field anyway.

Why even bother paying minimum wage? Just let them stay in a shack
and pay them just enough to keep them happy.

The same Republican state government does not intervene towards these farmers. After all, it is the core of their voter base in the right-wing states. So now the foreigners are even more exploited and have absolutely no rights in certain states in the US.

Trump never went after those who employed the illegals.

Fear is a strange thing. The previous administration made conservative voters extremely afraid of thieves and child molesters from abroad.... After all, that was Trump's message.

GWB also used fear in order to get what he wanted. But his "war on
terror" (a war on a verb) led to an invasion of Iraq based on false
pretenses, and an invasion of Afghanistan that became this country's
    longest war.

What good did any of GWB's antics do? Terrorists are still around,
causing mayhem around the world. The Taliban are still in power in
Afghanistan. Rather than have a Sunni dictator in Iraq there is a
Shiite dictator in Iraq. Other than that ...

That made him extremely popular, but it still hurts the US economy, because
the US depends on the labor of those foreigners.

OMG! What are we gonna do once all them foreigners get deported?
Somebody will have to feed us! And if those illegals won't, or can't
    do it, who will?

Growing crops is hard. And the pay is lousy. But somebody has to
do it. With no money to pay taxes, it will be a "hand to mouth"
economy. But first you have to own the land to grow the food.

    Hello Greg,

The US economy is suffering from a shortage of workers.

There are some unskilled workers who are unable to find employment.
But there is no shortage of jobs for anybody else.

    So how is this possible?

    There are two main causes.

The first is Covid. One million Americans have died from Covid in
    recent years.

Mostly due to Trump's incompetence. After he left office, President
Biden took care of the matter, and now the pandemic is over.

A good portion of them were still working (partly JP>because the U.S. has
    lousy pension laws).

Pension laws did not kill anybody. It was Trump's own incompetence
that did folks in. Injecting bleach or sunlight into your arse is not
a remedy that anybody should even consider, much less think about.

Holy sarcastic scholastic, I can see my evening will be busy with meaning, as you will be receiving correction on all of these falsehoods from spectre
    with a alternative conjecture.

It's all Trump's fault. He'll never admit it, but it's true.
Over 1.1 million dead Americans due to COVID under his watch.
Plus another half million no longer able to work.

But hey. Nothing to worry about. Joe Cool has everything
under control. A booming economy, full employment, the only
folks not working being those who lack the skills to do any
    meaningful work at all.

The US economy is suffering from a shortage of workers.
There is no labor shortage, There is, however, a shortage of jobs paying sufficient wages to attract workers to fill job openings, that will be enough to overcome this ridiculous Biden Inflation.

For most Americans, real (inflation-adjusted) wages continue to drop. Wages have been increasing less than prices.

Those price increases include the costs of food, energy, rent, childcare, eldercare and transportation (cars, gas and public transit) all big expenses for working people.

Meanwhile, the federal minimum wage continues to plummet. It hasn't been raised in 13 years the longest period without a raise in its history. Adjusted for inflation, its real value is the lowest it's been in 66 years.

You don't have to be a financial wizard to see why some workers might say the hell with it.

Economists offered similar warnings of a "labor shortage" after the financial crisis and recession of 2008-09. But when the economy strengthened and wages rose, the so-called "labor shortage" magically disappeared.

So by not taking Covid seriously, the previous president helped create this problem.

Covid or The Chinese Virus should of never happened.

    Hello Greg,

The US economy is suffering from a shortage of workers.

There is no labor shortage, There is, however, a shortage of jobs paying sufficient wages to attract workers to fill job openings, that will be enough to overcome this ridiculous Biden Inflation.

Republicans have been blocking efforts to raise the federally
mandated minimum wage for years. Since the last time it was raised -
to $7.25 an hour - the rate of inflation would make it $19.36 an
hour. Would you want to work for such a measly wage?

The state of Louisiana has no minimum wage, the same as four other
states. Employers can choose to pay whatever wage they want, as long
as it meets the federally-mandated $7.25 an hour.

Please tell me why the Republican Party is, and remains, the party
of scrooges. I really would like to know.

Bernie Sanders suggested a federally-mandated minimum wage of $15
an hour. He was wrong. Today, we need to start at $20 an hour. If we
    act now.

For most Americans, real (inflation-adjusted) wages continue to drop. Wages
have been increasing less than prices.

Wages never keep up with inflation. It has been well over a decade
since the last time the federally-mandated minimum wage was raised.
So why does the Republican Party choose to keep millions of people
    in abject poverty?

Those price increases include the costs of food, energy, rent, childcare, eldercare and transportation (cars, gas and public transit) all big expenses for working people.

That is why working people need better wages. And retirees need
higher incomes, as most are on social security or other fixed income.

Meanwhile, the federal minimum wage continues to plummet.

No shit, Sherlock. Whatever gave you that idea?

It hasn't been raised in 13 years the longest period without a raise in its
history. Adjusted for inflation, its real value is the lowest it's been in 66 years.

Republicans want to make slaves out of everybody.

You don't have to be a financial wizard to see why some workers might say the hell with it.

People have to eat. And when those are the only jobs one can get ...

Economists offered similar warnings of a "labor shortage" after the financial crisis and recession of 2008-09.

There is no labor shortgage. We have full employment in this country,
thanks to the policies of the Biden administration. The only sector
that had a rising level of unemployment was for minimum wage workers.
And that number was very small in relation to overall employment.

So please tell me why the Republican Party refuses to raise the federally-mandated minimum wage.

But when the economy strengthened and wages rose, the so-called "labor shortage" magically disappeared.

And yet the federally-mandated minimum wage remains the same.
Why is that? The Repulican Party wants to make slaves out of all
of us. Only, it ain't happening. And they don't like it.

So by not taking Covid seriously, the previous president helped create
    this problem.

Covid or The Chinese Virus should of never happened.

Trump should never have killed off over a million Americans with
his policies. Not to mention the half-million Americans no longer
    able to work.

Pandemics happen. The Spanish Flu was a pandemic. It should never
have happened, either. But every few decades, sh*t happens.

What we don't need are politicians playing doctor.

It wouldn't of ever shown up here in the U.S. if The Chi-Coms would of taken
responsibility and locked down their borders to restrict international travel out of China.

Total BS. It was already here before Trump had his meltdowns.

The pandemic affected every country on earth. Including islands
in the middle of the sea. Nobody was immune to it, and certainly
    no country.

Many farmers would love to exploit foreigners legally, but even they
don't get that chance legally because conservative Americans, fearing
foreigners, would rather close the border than see those foreigners
    working in the fields.

Conservative Americans do not hate immigrants,

Yeah, right. Trump really loved Mexicans, wanting to build a wall
to show them their welcome. And let's not forget his love for Chinese,
as he mocked them by calling the pandemic "kung flu" and other nasty
names. Conservatives are the same old cons they have always been.

we were all immigrants at one point, but there is a major difference - w/ the deliberate choice that is made intentionally with being a free loader or working hard to support your growing family.

Trump didn't give a flying f*ck about Mexicans, or Chinese, or any
other group (aside from white people). So why should anybody give a
flying f*ck about him, or other conservatives?

but.. here is what WE do hate.
But here is what we do hate:
A broken immigration system that allows illegal immigrants to go to the head
of the line in front of those who have waited their turn.
Luring poor people to make the dangerous trek through Mexico with unrealistic promises. Many are injured or become ill along the way. Some do
    not make it
    at all.

Show me. Show me your desire to have a comprehensive immigration
bill. Help put it on Biden's desk. He will sign it, and then you
and your conservative pals can congratulate yourselves for a job
    well done.

    To your other baseless points.

Put the bill on Biden's desk.
