Another hand-written note in my grandmother's cook book. I'm having trouble reading parts of this so the spots wherethe question marks are might be incorrect:
Raised Donuts
Soften yeast in lukewarm water about 5 minutes
Pour milk over sugar and salt. Kneed & stir until dissolved & slightly cooled. Add 1 cup of flour. Beat until smooth. Beat in shortening,
eggs, soften yeast, and remaining flour
Mix to a soft dough.
Turn out on a lightly floured board. Knead virorously for 5-10 minutes
or until dough becomes smooth dating(?)
Place on lightly greased bowl, greasing top of dough. Cover with wax
paper and allow to rise in warm place until double in size (1-1/2
hours) Roll out dough to 1/3" thickness. Cut
Let rise for 30-40 mins
Drop in hot fat(?) and fry
drop on absorband paper(?).
While warming glaze with mixture of 1/3 c boilin water & 1 cup confectioners sugar
... There are three kinds
