i gassed up my kia a little bit and the dollars were flying by on
the gas pump. i didnt even put in half a tank and what i paid was more than what i paid before for a full tank.

Picked up my "new" escape a few days ago. Filled it just to see what
kind of miliage I get. Will let you know once I start going places.
I got the XLT 4cyl engine with the 5 speed manual so I can shift for
gas usage not racing. :)

I used to love that shift myself in the summer time.

So I am trying to get my friend to take me over to the local Nissan

also no 4wd. that's good that you can manually shift, so that might help.
my kia gets great gas mileage but i have to hide it. people tried to
steal it twice already. kia theft is huge in milwaukee. ---

There was a story about someone who bought a little midsized sedan a couple of years ago, and Carvana quoted them over the price they paid
new for it to trade it in.
I have my trusty 2014 plug-in Prius; it's got 170K but I only drive 800 miles a month these days - as opposed to 2000 or so before the
pandemic. I'd like something bigger and with AWD, but I think I'll hold onto this for a while to see if the market for used cars improves.

My friend who drove me to pickup the SUV. 2011 Elentra with 60k klms on
it. (It's like new) 3 years ago paid $4500 for it. The dealer told me to ask if he'd sell it for $7000 and he would put it on the lot at $9500.

Out here and if you can find any, it's cheaper to buy a new car than a used one.
Do not buy anything right now. My vehicle is used to commute to work and until I know where that is I'm not sure how long that drive will be. :)
i used a place that is a business made from former employees of my credit union. they are even in the same building. you test drive the car and walk across the hall and get your loan.
I hear ya -- my next car could either be an AWD wagon like an Outback or an el
tric/hybrid with a carpool sticker, depending on how my job situation looks.

My current car would be an Outback if they were not so expensive.
Even a used one with 100K miles cost more than the car I
currently have.
Expensive? Subaru provides a lot of bang for the buck, in my opinion. Even
a loaded Outback wouldn't be more than $40K, would it? I'd call that
cheap, these days. You better not go looking at full size pickup trucks if you think that's expensive... ;-)

I would really like to have a M35 6x6 military truck but would need to move to farm country out of soccer mom territory.
subarus are for hipsters!
A deuce-and-a-half is a great vehicle but be prepared to wear hearing protection while driving it. I drove a 1969 four-speed model when I was
in the Army (no one else in my battery could drive it but me) and I had
to wear earplugs the entire time...but I trusted that old truck with my life and I could get it to run on damn near any fuel I threw at it,
mostly MOGAS but I did use kerosene and lamp oil a time or two.

yeah pookie got an impreza because her hipster liberal coworkers all
had subarus. she ended up hating it but atleast it had awd for the winter.

My neighbors would disagree, but I wouldn't mind having several
more vehicles. I like the old school huge cars and trucks. I
would find them for under $3k, buy replacement crate engines if
needed and a rebuilt trans. Would be exempt from emmissions, get
the classic tags, and would use them as my daily drivers.

Yeah, the old school stuff is pretty cool. Not everybody has the skills
and shop/location to be able to do that, though. I certainly don't.
The finishing touch would be to install an 8-track player in it. ;-)
Hehe, that's a whole 'nother category, there. :-)

Go to snow country and you're surrounded by Subarus. Their AWD is pretty amazing. When my Prius finally bites it, I'll probably get an Outback.
any 4wd feels amazing in snow.
i have my ford explorer as a winter car. i never slip.
awd will cost you in gas money. also i see those people in those
little subarus still drive like they are scared. it's still better
than front wheel drive, though.
Subarus are still little cars, and weight plays into driving in the
snow. my ex's impreza was better than her 2wd dodge but it didn't
compare to my suv with driving in the snow. forresters are tiny too.

I replaced my 2010 Ford Escape AWD with a 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility that had been retired by the Vermont State Police. The 3.7L V6 actually gets better mileage than the 2.5L I-4 in the Escape was
getting toward the end. Being from Vermont, the 2017 also came with AWD and decent winter tires.
80+ in snow just because they have a 4WD/AWD SUV or pickup. I chuckle
to myself as I pass them off the road stuck in a snowbank.

I would love to find an old AMC Eagle wagon from the 80s and turn it
into an AWD battlewagon. Even better if it still had the woodgrain
sides. :)
Oh, they're calling the Explorer model "Police Interceptor", too. I
was confused as how you could make the old Crown Vic platform AWD.
I just got a 2010 Ford Escape, but mine is not awd and has a 5 speed manual. So far I'm happy with the gas mileage on the 2.5, it's not amazing, but it's not v6 caravan burning either.

Front wheel drive with decent tires can get you most places. It's the places it can't that cause problems. :)

I don't think that black ice cares whether or not your 4wd mode is on... unless it is a small patch, and a tire or two are still on pavement, you aren't going to get traction.
I see your "ma deuce and a half" and raise you a German halftrack with

Probably would have required a lot of work to get those 2 out and back

With my Gen3 Prius, you need to take off the windshield wipers and the
windshield facia to get to them. if only that engineer had rotated
the top of the block 90 degrees it'd be a walk in the park to change
the plugs.
Luckily, they're rated for 100K miles.
